Students beamed into CERN experiment control room

Students at Peters Township High School participated in an interactive group video call with scientists from CERN and Fermilab.

High-school-physics teacher Susan Hlebinsky signed up her class for the Skype in the Classroom programme. She and her students were amazed to be joined in Pennsylvania by CERN scientists Hans Peter Beck and Denis Oliveira Damazio live from the ATLAS control room on their call last month.

Hans Peter Beck noted that it’s wonderful for scientists to be able to engage directly with teachers and students in the classroom.

“Students are our future scientists, and teachers enable us to reach them and engage with them. Being able to inform teachers about our cutting-edge research findings is invaluable,” says Beck.
