I will argue that in theories featuring θ-vacuum structure and spectral asymmetry of the Dirac operator, anomalous symmetries are realized non-linearly. This has direct implications for the electroweak sector of the Standard Model. Specifically, the non-perturbative structure of the electroweak vacuum implies that the theory must exhibit non-linearly realized anomalous B+L invariance. Consequently, this leads to the emergence of a new (pseudo)Goldstone boson, the electroweak ηw, which can be seen as the electroweak counterpart of the QCD η meson.
