Pushing the frontiers of technology through the advancement of fundamental science is one of CERN’s key missions. For the first time, CERN was a data-partner of the State of European Tech report, which provides an in-depth analysis of the European entrepreneurship ecosystem, from founders to students, investors and researchers. The survey is based on data collected from 5000 members of this network, including world-class institutes. The 2018 report was launched at the SLUSH entrepreneurship conference that took place last December in Helsinki. The event brought together over 20 000 entrepreneurs, investors, and students, more than 3000 start-ups and 1800 investors.

In the report, CERN gave an insight into how fundamental research institutes act as key drivers for innovation, through their contribution to both technological and human capital. CERN’s expertise and innovation benefits society thanks to a policy of  knowledge and technology transfer. From medicine to aerospace and industry, CERN’s technology provides business solutions in many fields, including to start-ups hosted in CERN’s network of Business Incubation Centres.
