A report released today, 20 November 2013, rates CERN as the most effective international organization on Twitter.

The Twiplomacy Study 2013 from Burson-Marseller analyses how 101 international not-for-profit organizations such as UNICEF, World Economic Forum and European Central Bank use Twitter. While CERN had the 8th highest number of followers (just over 870,000), our tweets are consistently retweeted more than any other organization.

CERN maintains an active presence on social media, engaging with members of the science community and the general public around the world to share scientific discoveries, news, views and job opportunities. Google Hangouts allow students to talk directly to CERN scientists and engineers, whilst images of CERN’s research facilities inspire and engage.

As the report says “no international organization can ignore the power of digital communications, and especially Twitter.”
