Understanding containers and why they matter

Where:

31/3-004 at CERN

Abstract

Containers have fundamentally transformed how we build, deploy, and scale applications—providing lightweight, portable, and consistent environments across a wide range of systems.
In this session, we will explore:

  • How containers work under the hood, with a focus on kernel-level concepts and how they differ from traditional virtual machines
  • Key use cases for containers in both development and production environments
  • A brief introduction to cloud technologies and the role containers play in modern infrastructure
  • Hands-on exercises tailored to various experience levels, from beginner to advanced
