This new video from the CERN IT department  – premiered at the CERN Open Days last weekend – showcases the many changes and additions to CERN's computing facilities since the laboratory was founded in 1954.

The video charts the history of computing a CERN, from the 1950s – when a talented Dutchman called Wim Klein performed astonishing feats of mental arithmetic for his colleagues – through to the present-day Data Centre, with its 10,000 servers and 90,000 processing cores sending over one million jobs per day to the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid.
