The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme promotes the careers of women in science by recognising the excellence of senior women researchers and awarding grants to talented young scientists. Five of the grantees visited CERN in the context of a three-day training organised by WIPO Academy and UNESCO: Zohra Dhouafli from Tunisia (neuroscience and biochemistry), Biola María Javierre Martínez from Spain (genomics), Mika Nomoto from Japan (molecular biology and phytopathology) and Nurcan Tuncbag from Turkey (bioinformatics). They were joined by Karen Hallberg from Argentina, an expert in condensed matter and winner of the 2019 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science award for Latin America.
